Kyra Bartley is an Australian animator & designer, currently freelancing from the beautiful Phnom Penh, Cambodia. If you have work, she will willingly put the coconut down and fire up the Mac.
Old school cel or slick new motion piece: show me some beautiful animation and I’m all yours.
Whether it’s moving or not, I’m a big fan of great design, and will happily apply it to print, web and branded content.
Because sometimes the stories I want to tell don’t need my hands to draw them.
No matter how beautiful an image is, it’s always more beautiful if it gives something back.

Pre-dawn missions are hard at the best of times, but when you add to that the knowledge that seeing the first glimpse of the sun involves trekking up to the top of the mountain, it’s hard not to pull the sheets over your head and catch a few more z’s. Nevertheless, on our second attempt (first one thwarted by too much Christmas cheer in the form of cheap Vietnamese vodka) we managed to catch the sunrise, and the quiet moments of reflection on the hilltop were well worth it.
Christmas is somewhat of a non-event in Cambodia, although it still made for a good excuse to skip out of town for a short break in the relative cool of the mountains in Mondulkiri. This beautiful place is home to Cambodia’s few remaining elephants, including those protected by worthwhile NGO The Elephant Valley Project: a sanctuary 10km out of town which strongly promotes ecotourism and remains steadfastly outside most means of contact with the rest of the world. (Yes, we tried to find wifi.)
2012 has not been without its challenges: moving to Cambodia proved both bizarrely easy and incredibly frustrating in turns. With a brand new slate of projects to look forward to in 2013 though, I couldn’t think of a better way to see out the year than with new friends in Battambang.
